About v9
What changed.
PSYROB v7.0 replaced the single chain with a block DAG and rebuilt governance around 100 elected NGOs. Testnet v8.0 added a dev council, a public upgrade path and an emergency pause. Testnet v9.0 fixes the problems found in a review of v8.0 and adds finality from the start.
New in v9.0
- Finality from the first block: until the first finality committee is chosen, the public node's miner signs a checkpoint every 30 chain blocks. Once signed, the chain cannot be rewritten below that point. The committee takes over for good when it is formed.
- Registrations stay put. On v8.0 a registration could disappear when the chain reorganised. Now a transaction that drops out of the chain goes back into the queue and is included again.
- New pages for registering a miner and registering a miner for an NGO, written for people who have not used a block explorer before.
- The queue of waiting transactions can no longer be blocked by transactions that can never run.
- Limits on the dev council: it can only approve small node updates, and it retires after 12 months even if 60 NGOs have not been elected. Normal mode no longer ends the moment the number of elected NGOs dips below 60; that takes 30 days.
- A challenge against an NGO that nobody decides within 14 days lapses, so one person can no longer block an NGO for good. NGO rewards collected before the first election are paid out over a year instead of all at once.
- The chain was reset: everything from v8.0 is gone. Testnet PSY has no value.
New in v8.0
- Launch ceremony: the three Dev Account holders each signed their seat with the Dev Account wallet and named a separate council key before the network started.
- Dev council: until 60 NGOs are elected for the first time, two of three council keys can approve node updates, change the committee bond and the role candidacy deposit, and pause. Then the council retires for good and keeps only the emergency pause (once every 7 days). It never had access to the Treasury, balances, the 12 %, the NGO election or its rules, and contract updates are the DAO's.
- Upgrades: every contract or node update is submitted, approved (council, later a DAO vote with a majority of the elected NGOs) and waits a public timelock before it takes effect. Nodes that are too old stop instead of splitting the chain.
- Emergency pause: one contract or all transactions, 72 hours at most; only the DAO can extend or end it early. Mining, votes, upgrades and the 12 % vesting continue.
Since v7.0
- GHOSTDAG ordering, k = 18, about 10 seconds per block, up to 10 parents.
- Conflicting transactions in parallel blocks are skipped, not fatal.
- Maximum supply 1,000,000,000 PSY: 36 % mining, 36 % NGOs, 12 % team (immutable vesting, never paused or upgraded), 16 % Community/Treasury.
- Finality committee of 21: 6 NGO seats and 15 miner seats, quorum 15, slashing for equivocation.
- Roles (CEO, CTO, Treasurer, Community Lead, Security Lead) are elected by the NGOs, cannot vote, and are paid from the Treasury.
- If fewer than 60 NGOs are elected three months after genesis, the Interim Council fallback applies: only mining and basic functions continue.
